Top author Mitch Albom coming to Willow Creek

Best-selling author and Detroit-based newspaper columnist Mitch Albom will be featured at Willow Creek Community Church in South Barrington this weekend.

Albom will sign books in the main lobby after Willow Creek's 5:30 p.m. service Saturday, Nov. 4, and the 9 a.m. service Sunday, Nov. 5. He'll be interviewed by teaching pastor Steve Carter for the church's “Game Changers” message during the 5:30 p.m. service and an 11:15 a.m. service Sunday.

He's celebrating the 20th anniversary of the touching, acclaimed best-seller “Tuesdays With Morrie,” which will be sold at Willow Creek's campus bookstore, Seeds. The book is about his time spent with his dying college professor, Morrie Schwartz,

Among Albom's other books are “The Five People You Meet in Heaven” and “The Magic Strings of Frankie Presto.” He's sold about 40 million copies of his books, which are in print in 42 languages and in 50 countries.

He still writes a Detroit Free Press column and has a radio show on the city's WJR-AM. At one time he was known just for sports columns, but expanded to the books and general news topics for the newspaper.

Albom also is involved in philanthropic endeavors, including an orphanage he operates in Port Au Prince Haiti and several charities helping less-fortunate Detroit residents.
