Lake County closes bike trail for emergency repairs

The Lake County Division of Transportation has closed a portion of the Robert McClory Bike Path in Waukegan for emergency repairs, due to a failing storm sewer pipe underneath the path, officials said Friday.

It is anticipated that the path won't reopen until early 2018.

The closure, which officials said is necessary for the safety of bicyclists and other path users, stretches from Washington Street to Glen Rock Avenue. A detour will follow the sidewalk on Washington Street to Jackson Street to Glen Rock Avenue.

The 25.5-mile path stretches from Highland Park on the south to the Wisconsin state line. It connects with three other trails: the Green Bay Trail, the Kenosha County Bike Trail and the North Shore trail in Lake Bluff.
