Vernon Hills police collecting Toys for Tots

The Vernon Hills Police Department is serving until Dec. 10 as a drop-off location for the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program.

The Toys for Tots program accepts new, unwrapped items. Realistic-looking weapons or gifts with food will not be accepted and, if donated, will not be distributed.

Some ideas for older children include sporting equipment/bags/balls, books, backpacks, cosmetics, purses, watch/wallet gift sets, bath gift sets, board games, radio control cars/trucks, hand-held electronics, skateboards/helmets, curling irons, hair straighteners and hair dryers.

The department's drop-off box at 740 Lakeview Parkway is available 24 hours a day. Village hall and the public works facility also are drop-off locations. Visit vhpd.com for hours they'll be available.
