Authorities on Sunday identified a man and woman who were killed in an apparent murder-suicide that began in a Jewel-Osco parking lot in Plainfield.
Elaine M. Zene, 65, of Woodridge, was shot multiple times Saturday afternoon outside a Jewel-Osco at 13460 S. Route 59, according to the Will County coroner's office. She was taken to Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital, where she died at 1:08 p.m.
Plainfield police said Zene was fatally shot about 12:30 p.m. by her ex-husband, who was identified Sunday as 72-year-old Raymond T. Zene, according to an ABC 7 report.
A few hours later, Raymond Zene killed himself in his townhouse in the 24000 block of Walnut Circle, the Will County coroner's office says. He suffered a single gunshot wound and was pronounced dead in his home at 5:15 p.m.
Authorities said they heard a gunshot as they arrived at Zene's residence for a well-being check, ABC 7 reports.
Preliminary autopsies were performed Sunday, Will County coroner officials said. The final cause and manner of death have yet to be determined.
Police said they will release more information Monday.
