Police search for burglar who shot house sitter near St. Charles North

Police are searching Thursday afternoon for a burglar who shot a man in the shoulder during a home invasion near St. Charles North High School. Police said they responded to a call from a 28-year-old man who told them he had just been shot. The victim is related to the owner of the home, on the 3600 block of Grand View Court, and was house sitting at the time. Full story.

Ex-Arlington Heights library official says controversial initiatives led to firing

Fired Arlington Heights Memorial Library Deputy Director Jeremy Andrykowski said he thinks some library staff members' unhappiness with the direction of the library led to his and Executive Director Jason Kuhl's departure. Streamwood brothers plead guilty to attacking relative over a lighter

Streamwood brothers charged with striking, head-butting and choking a female relative earlier this year during a fight over a lighter pleaded guilty Thursday. Nicholas Bell, 27, and James Bell, 25, were each sentenced to 60 days in jail and 30 months of probation. Full story.

Maybe the Chicago Bulls needed the right good luck charm to pick up their first victory of the season. Before Thursday's game against Atlanta, Bulls center Robin Lopez decorated his locker with a framed photo of a young Britney Spears.
