Man faces drug, gun charges

An Evanston man has been charged with possessing over 250 grams of cocaine and 15 grams of crack after executing a search warrant at his home Tuesday, authorities said.

Eduardo M. Santana, 40, of the 700 block of Custer Avenue, has been charged with multiple felony's including unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, criminal fortification of a residence, unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful use of a weapon with a defaced serial number and being an armed habitual offender.

He is also facing misdemeanor charges of possession of ammunition without a firearm owners identification card, authorities said in a news release early Friday.

Police executed a search warrant at Santana's residence at 3:05 p.m. Tuesday following an investigation into the sale of narcotics in Evanston, authorities said.

Santana was taken into custody during the execution of the warrant.

Police seized 262 grams of cocaine, 15 grams of crack cocaine, 9 pills of ecstasy, 1 gram of heroin, $3,831 in cash and a loaded Ruger .45 caliber handgun, authorities said.

Authorities also discovered a police scanner, surveillance cameras showing a live feed inside and outside the residence and that the door had been barricaded by the use of metal brackets and wooden planks, officials said.

On Wednesday, police executed a second search warrant to a storage locker Santana had rented where a Walther .380 caliber handgun was recovered, authorities said.

His bond and next court date is unknown.
