Elmhurst History Museum names new director

A museum professional with 27 years of experience, David Oberg, has been named director of the Elmhurst History Museum.

In his new role, he's expected to lead the museum as it works to engage people with history through a thoughtful collection, enlightened exhibits and diverse educational experiences.

Oberg is the former executive director of the Grayslake Heritage Center & Museum and is a past president of the Illinois Association of Museums. He has a bachelor's degree in history and political science and a master's in history from Northern Illinois University.

He will manage all aspects of the museum's operations and direct its professional and administrative staff.

He also will work with the board of the Elmhurst Heritage Foundation and serve as a department director for the city. He replaces Brian Bergheger, who served as the museum's director since 1988 and retired in October.

The museum, at 120 E. Park Ave., is open from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday and Tuesday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.
