Two dead, three injured in crash on Orchard Road near Interstate 88

Two people are dead and three others are in the hospital after a late Monday morning, three-vehicle crash along Orchard Road at the north intersection of Interstate 88 on the Aurora-North Aurora border, authorities said.

Authorities believe the crash could be related to two separate shootings in the Aurora area that are suspected to be a result of gang violence.

About 11:47 a.m., a Jaguar and a GMC Envoy traveling quickly north on Orchard Road struck a semitrailer truck turning south onto Orchard while exiting from eastbound I-88, according to the Kane County sheriff's office. Both vehicles struck the trailer portion of the semi. The speed limit on Orchard is 50 mph.

The driver of the GMC, Christopher Shaw, 23, of North Aurora, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two passengers in the front and rear seats were taken by helicopter to a Chicago-area hospital with life-threatening injuries. Devonte Bouchee, 24, of Aurora, who was seated in front, died late Monday afternoon. The second passenger, a 23-year-old Aurora man, remains hospitalized, authorities said.

The driver of the Jaguar, a 38-year-old Aurora man, was taken to an Aurora-area hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the semi, a 27-year-old from Burbank, also was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

The Kane County sheriff's office and Aurora police are investigating two separate reports of shots fired at 11:04 a.m. on Konen Avenue near Arlene Street in unincorporated Kane County, and about 11:45 a.m. on Nantucket and Durham near Indian Trail. Both reports involved vehicles chasing each other and shots being exchanged, authorities said.

Authorities said nothing was hit at Konen Avenue. Two houses - on the 1200 block of Morton Avenue and the 800 block of Old Indian Trail - sustained gunfire damage without any injuries, Aurora police said.

Anyone with information on the shootings is asked to call Kane County sheriff's investigators at (630) 444-1103, Aurora police at (630) 256-5500, or Aurora Area Crime Stoppers at (630) 892-1000.

Orchard Road at I-88 reopened at 5:30 p.m. There have been no tickets issued or arrests made.
