Barrington District 220 schools lauded for good student attendance

Nine Barrington Area Unit District 220 schools placed highly in a September attendance contest.

District 220 participated in the 28th annual Lake County Attendance Week Awards. District 220 spans Cook, Lake and Kane counties.

Sponsored by the Lake County Regional Office of Education, the idea is to highlight the importance of children attending school.

At least 145 schools competed in four enrollment categories - small, medium and large K-8 buildings and high schools.

Monika Schwander, director of the attendance and truancy division for the Lake County regional education office, said in a promotional video that the September contest coincides with a national movement backed by the Attendance Works organization.

Students who attend schools in the top 10 in each category were rewarded with a breakfast and certificates.

Following are the nine of the 12 schools from District 220 that earned a spot in the top 10 for best attendance: Early Learning Center, Barbara B. Rose Elementary, Roslyn Road Elementary, Hough Street School, Grove Avenue Elementary, North Barrington Elementary, Arnett C. Lines Elementary, Barrington Middle School-Prairie Campus and Barrington High School.
