Images: Rappelling in Schaumburug and more in our pictures of the week

So I posted a square version of this photo on Instagram the other day and I readily and with no apologies admit that I spend a good five minutes trying to come up with a clever caption that also had no air of mockery to it. This was a fine chip out of the sand and the only thing that made it remotely funny was the placement of the ball when there is so little depth of field. I tried things about "hitting it on the nose" or about "eyes on the ball." They all stunk. Turns out I'm not as clever as I like to think. So here's my new caption: Glenbard East's Cassie Payne chips out of the sand and for 1/4000th of a second the ball is in front of her nose during the Upstate 8 conference girls golf tournament Monday at St. Andrews Golf & Country Club in West Chicago. Kind of wordy, but true. This photo was published in the Perspective column in the printe editio of the Daily Herald. Rick West/rwest@dailyherald.com

I liked the combination of the smiling face looking over the shoulder of the thirsty man. Patience is important in getting the right shot because I had to wait several minutes for the guy to get in the right position and to take the drink of water.
