Sentencing postponed for Geneva woman in Canadian murder plot

The sentencing of a Geneva woman for her role in a plot to kill people at a Canadian shopping mall has been postponed until April 2018, according to a Canadian's prosecutor's office.

Lindsay Souvannarath, 24, pleaded guilty in April to conspiracy to commit murder. Her sentencing was set for Oct. 5 and 6.

Last week her attorney was granted a continuance. Canadian Broadcasting Corp. News reported he wanted more time to complete a psychological report about Souvannarath, which prosecutors would then presumably want to review before recommending a sentence.

Souvannarath and two Canadian men she met online had planned to shoot people and throw Molotov cocktails in the food court of a mall in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Feb. 14, 2015.

One man intended to go with her to the mall; the other, Randall Shepherd, planned to supply the guns and bomb materials, then kill himself.

Police were alerted to the plot. Shepherd was arrested with Souvannarath as she arrived at an airport in Halifax. The other man killed himself in a standoff with police.

Shepherd pleaded guilty last November and was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Souvannarath has been in jail since her arrest.
