Prosecutors: Lake County woman killed boyfriend to protect daughter

A Lake County woman was protecting her daughter when she fatally stabbed her boyfriend during an altercation at her home on the Fourth of July, authorities said Monday.

Tina L. Primm, 39, of Waukegan admitted guilt to concealment of a homicide or death as part of a plea agreement Monday in which prosecutors dropped charges of second-degree murder and aggravated battery stemming from the killing.

Prosecutors also agreed to a 180-day jail sentence that, with time already served, allows for Primm's immediate release from custody. She must perform 100 hours of community service and spend two years in probation, under terms of the deal.

Assistant Lake County State's Attorney Ari Fisz said in court that Primm was charged after killing Daniel Parker, 42, in a home on the 2200 block of Western Avenue in Waukegan.

Fisz said Parker was intoxicated when he got into the scuffle with Primm and her 18-year-old daughter at about 9 a.m. July 4.

Parker struck Primm and was holding two knives when Primm's 18-year-old daughter joined the altercation, Fisz said. After Parker put down the knives and attacked the teenager in a nearby room, Primm grabbed a knife and stabbed him in the chest, authorities say.

The teen attempted to call police after Parker died, but Primm stopped her and attempted to clean up the death scene, Fisz said. The teen called police later when her mother wasn't looking, and Primm was placed under arrest.

Parker was pronounced dead at the scene from multiple stab wounds. An autopsy later revealed he had a blood-alcohol level of .335, Fisz said. That is an amount more than four times what is considered intoxicated for driving.

"We feel this is a just result," defense attorney John E. Murphy said of the plea deal. "We are grateful to Mr. Fisz and the Lake County State's Attorney's Office for doing the right thing in this case."

Primm had been held in Lake County jail on $100,000 bail since her arrest.
