Boot camp recommended for Bartlett teen who stabbed man in July

A Bartlett 19-year-old pleaded guilty to aggravated battery charges stemming from a fight outside a Knollwood Lane home in July.

In exchange for his guilty plea, Sam A. Petitte was sentenced Wednesday to two years in prison with a recommendation for the Illinois Department of Corrections impact incarceration program, also known as boot camp, court records show.

Boot camp consists of military-style training, substance abuse counseling, life skills training and education. Candidates must be approved by IDOC and await an opening for the 120-day program. If an inmate is not admitted to boot camp or fails to complete the program, he or she must serve the rest of his or her sentence.

According to a police report, Petitte stabbed a man with a pocket knife during a fight. The man's injury was not life-threatening, police said.

Petitte must also pay $4,700 in restitution and $709 in fines, court records show.
