St. Charles house fire causes $200,000 damage

No one was injured in an early morning house fire Monday in St. Charles that caused $200,000 damage, authorities said.

Fire and police departments were called at 2:47 a.m. to the home in the 400 block of Jackson Avenue by one of the home's occupants who awoke to a smoke-filled house, the fire department said in a news release.

While firefighters were en route, police on the scene reported seeing fire in the rear of the single-story residence.

All occupants were out of the house when firefighters arrived, authorities said.

Fire was spotted in the basement and first floor of the house, but was brought under control by about 3:15 a.m., authorities said.

Officials said the home was deemed uninhabitable.

The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental but remains under investigation.

The St. Charles Fire Department was assisted by Geneva, Batavia, Elburn and West Chicago fire departments.
