Community bike ride in Arlington Heights Saturday, Sept. 16

A free community bike ride throughout Arlington Heights is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 16.

Both adult and youth cyclists can participate in a 14-mile bike tour, or a 4-mile "starter loop." Riders will leave from North School Park at Arlington Heights Road and Eastman Street at 9:15 a.m. with route guidance from members of the village's Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Commission and the police department's bike patrol.

Those who have registered online can have their bikes checked by a mechanic between 8 and 9 a.m. Fresh fruit and granola bars will be provided. Attendees are asked to bring a refillable water bottle and helmets, and be familiar with rules of the road and basic bicycle operation.

To register, visit vah.com, or do so on site the morning of the ride.
