Nature walk with a literary twist at Ryerson
Children and parents marched and read their way through the Edward L Ryerson Conservation Area in Riverwoods on Thursday as part of a nature program called Trail Tales.
Environmental educator Jen Berlinghof led the small group through the woods as they read panels from a story book called "Winter is Coming" by Tony Johnston.
The group sniffed flowers, looked at animal pelts and listened for the sounds of nature as they wandered down a path reading stories as they walked.
"The program was started to engage young families with nature and literacy," Berlinghof said.
Berlinghof hopes the program will get people outside and see that reading can be an experience within the forest preserve.
