Lake County leaders to celebrate end of Washington Street project

Lake County leaders will celebrate the completion of the $53 million Washington Street Thoroughfare Project at a special event Friday, Sept. 29, at the new Washington Street underpass in Grayslake.

Under construction the past two years, two segments of Washington Street from west of Hainesville Road to Lake Street were widened to five lanes and the road lowered beneath the CN/Metra tracks.

They were considered separate projects but done simultaneously, and represent the last stretch of the 11-mile length of Washington Street from Round Lake east to Green Bay Road in Waukegan that have been widened and improved in segments in a process that began about 25 years ago.
