Libertyville police investigate counterfeit $100 bills

Libertyville police are investigating reports that two women successfully passed counterfeit $100 bills this month at businesses in the village.

According to police, the women make a low-value purchase using a phony bill and then collect legitimate currency as change. Successful exchanges took place Aug. 8 at a hardware store and Aug. 23 at a pizza restaurant, according to police.

The women are both described as in their mid-20s, standing 5' to 5'4" tall and weighing about 115 pounds. One may speak with a European accent. They may have been driving a 2008 Buick Lucerne with tinted windows.
