Learn about Elgin Academy:

Elgin Academy sponsors an information session, "Making Elgin Academy Affordable," from 6 to 7 p.m. today. Attendees will be provided with information to help families better understand available tuition assistance options, including the FAST online aid application process and details about the new Hilltopper Merit Scholarship program. Tuition assistance is awarded to students at all grade levels, and is decided on the basis of need and funds availability. Elgin Academy hosts campus preview days from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Nov. 18 for students in kindergarten through eighth grade, and 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 7 for students in ninth to 12th grade. 'Science Night' at museum:

Explore, taste and discover at "Science Night: Science of Snacks" 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Elgin Public Museum, 225 Grand Blvd. Different stations will be set up to conduct experiments and see demonstrations, including the science behind butter making and how the nose tastes food. Veterans Day in Batavia:

The Batavia Overseas Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1197 and the Batavia American Legion Post 504 host a Veterans Day service at 10 a.m. Saturday at the VFW, 645 S. River St. The Batavia Community Band will accompany the service. Visit bataviavfw.org.

Free legal advice is available by phone the second Saturday during Ask a Lawyer Day. Call (630) 762-1900 from 9 a.m. to noon for a free consultation with a volunteer attorney. Last month, callers were helped with legal problems regarding issues in real estate, landlord/tenant, criminal, estates and wills, divorce, child custody, collections, bankruptcy, and traffic. Geneva Green Market:

The Geneva Green Market, an indoor winter farmers market, is 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays through April at First Congregational Church, 327 Hamilton St. Vendors include: Mighty Green Farm, Garlic Breath Farm, Heritage Prairie Farm, Fox Prairie Farm, Biscocho Baked Goods, Grandma's Farm Fresh Eggs, Sitka Salmon Shares, Curds and Whey Cheese Co., Alice's Corner, Inglenook Pantry, and the Little Bison Co. Sierra Club meets Monday:

The Valley of the Fox Sierra Club meets at 7 p.m. Monday at Messenger Public Library, 113 Oak St., North Aurora. Eric Weck, the chapter's water sentinel, has an overview of issues regarding the Fox River and what can be done to help the health of the river. The public is invited.
