Rolling Meadows alderman promotes beekeeping

Rolling Meadows 5th Ward Alderman Rob Banger is inviting city residents to an "open hive" event, where he will offer a tour of his backyard bee hives and answer questions, from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27. The event is in his self-described Backyard Oasis at 2209 Oak Lane.

Banger is holding the event to promote greater understanding of bees' role in food production and their importance to the ecosystem. Refreshments will be available.

Banger is an avid gardener and beekeeper who sought passage of the city's 2016 backyard beekeeping ordinance and helped lead efforts to establish the city's community garden in 2014. For more information, email robbangerjr@gmail.com or call (224) 639-6686.
