Buffalo Grove recognizes music group, two individuals

The Buffalo Grove village board this week handed out honors to BG Singers music group and two individuals for their accomplishments.

The BG Singers were honored for a quarter-century of choral excellence and sang a song for the board and the audience.

The singers pride themselves on being the "chorus that cares" and have lived up to that reputation by filling backpacks for Vernon Township children, donating a defibrillator to the Buffalo Grove Park District, sending instruments and music to New York after Hurricane Sandy, donating musical instruments to children that lost theirs in Hurricane Katrina, donating musical items to Northwest Community Hospital for the children's wing and most recently raising more than $15,000 for to fight cancer in children.

The BG Singers are holding their anniversary concert, "Wish," 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Sept. 15-16, and 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 17, at the Buffalo Grove Park District Community Arts Center, 225 McHenry Road, with all proceeds from art sold at the event going to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, this year's charity.

The board also gave special recognition to David Posner for reporting a car fire before it could spread. And Brenda Field was recognized for receiving the James A. Tidwell Award for Journalism Education Excellence from the Illinois Journalism Education Association. The annual award recognizes high school journalism educators for their work.
