Community raising money for Schaumburg family displaced by fire

Residents are raising money for a Schaumburg family whose townhouse was badly damaged in a fire last weekend.

A GoFundMe page had raised nearly $11,000 by Thursday for the Szenda family, who could be displaced for months after a fire broke out in their townhouse.

The fire early Saturday morning in the 200 block of Oak Knolls Court damaged four townhouses. No one was injured, but the Szenda family lost most of their belongings and a car.

Donations will pay for clothing, food, temporary housing and supplies until the family can go back home, the GoFundMe page said.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
