Man shot to death in Waukegan apartment

Waukegan police are investigating the fatal shooting of a 26-year-old man found dead early Saturday by officers responding to reports of shots fired.

Leon Pruitt Jr. died as a result of multiple gunshot wounds suffered in the shooting, an autopsy Monday confirmed.

Police said officers found Pruitt at about 12:15 a.m. Saturday in an upstairs apartment in the 500 block of Cummings Avenue, where they had gone after receiving multiple calls about shots fired.

The shooting is being investigated by the Waukegan Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division. Multiple leads are being investigated and additional information will be released as it becomes available, police said.

Detectives believe the shooting is an isolated event and there is no immediate threat to the community, police said.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Waukegan Police Department's Tip-Line at (847) 360-9001 or Lake County Crime Stoppers at (847) 662-2222.
