Barrington hosts delayed National Night Out
Barrington hosted National Night Out later than usual, hosing it Thursday night instead of Aug. 3 after postponing last week's festivities due to bad weather that was predicted.
Visitors gathered from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. as part of the weekly Cruise Night in the Harris Bank parking lot at Cook and Station streets in downtown Barrington.
Similar to other towns, Barrington residents were asked to lock their doors, turn on their front porch lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and law enforcement.
Barrington's National Night Out was hosted by the police department and included family-friendly activities such as bingo, face painting, a magic show and kids' workshop kits. Other fun included police dog demonstrations and chances for children to climb in and on public safety vehicles.
"The Barrington Police Department is honored to host National Night Out each year at Cruise Nights for the Barrington community," Chief David Dorn said in a news release. "It's a great evening full of fun and family-friendly activities. But more importantly, it helps our community come together around the topic of public safety and provides education and awareness to people of all ages."
