Midlothian man faces DUI charges after I-88 crash

A Midlothian man charged with drunken driving was nearly four times over the legal blood-alcohol limit when he was involved in a crash Sunday on I-88, officials say.

Steven A. Johnson Jr., 31, of the 14600 block of Karlov Avenue, is charged with aggravated driving under the influence, resisting a police officer, driving with a suspended license and operating an uninsured motor vehicle. Johnson also was cited with improper lane usage, according to a news release from the Kane County State's Attorney's office Monday.

Prosecutors said Johnson had a blood-alcohol level of .316 when he was involved in a crash about 10:30 p.m. while driving westbound on I-88 near mile marker 108 west of Route 47. He was taken to an Aurora hospital, where he unsuccessfully tried to flee, according to the release.

At the time of the crash, Johnson was wanted on a Cook County arrest warrant, and had his license suspended for a prior DUI, prosecutors said.

A Kane County judge set Johnson's bond a $25,000 Monday. He must post $2,500 bail to be released from the Kane County jail, where he remained Monday evening.

Johnson is due back in court Wednesday.
