Elmhurst tells residents: Go fly a kite

It was the kind of day in Elmhurst where if someone told you to "go fly a kite," you'd simply smile and say, "Sure!"

Indeed, if you looked around Berens Park on Saturday afternoon, you'd think just about everybody in town suddenly developed a powerful hankering to launch a kite.

It was all part of Elmhurst Park District's annual Kite Fest, where amateurs could rub shoulders with kite professionals - yes, there are professional kite fliers - for a few hours of fun and demonstrations.

A team of stunt kite fliers known as 180 Go from Charleston, Illinois, showed its stuff while kids got to participate in a contest where kite strings were fastened around their waists.

Even if you didn't want to fly a kite, there was plenty to do in the park, with a DJ, Hula-Hoop contest and several food trucks.
