Annual blues and burger fest is Saturday in Wauconda

If you're a fan of bluesy music, gourmet hamburgers or adult beverages, consider heading to downtown Wauconda on Saturday.

The eighth annual Blues, Brew and Burger Fest is set for 5 to 10 p.m. in the municipal parking lot at Mill Street and Maple Avenue. That's a block west of Main Street, just north of Route 176.

Admission is $1, and a portion of the proceeds will benefit Make-A-Wish Illinois. A raffle will benefit Make-A-Wish, too.

The musical headliner is Wauconda's own Kevin Purcell and the Nightburners, a popular act that's performed a few times in town this summer. The band is set to play at 6:30 p.m.

"They have previously given a wish in Wauconda and hope to help them grant even more in the future," said Matt Froelich, who owns Bliss Wine and Gifts, and is co-sponsoring the gathering.

Other music will play when the band isn't onstage, Froelich said.

The fest isn't just about music. Food and drinks from Bliss and another sponsor, Bulldogs Grill, will complete the entertainment trinity.

"Bulldogs is grilling outside, (making) some of their amazing burgers," Froelich said.

Bulldogs co-owner Aaron Aggarwal believes the Blues, Brew and Burger Fest continues to draw because it's hosted by local businesses and features local entertainers.

"People love to see the synergies between local businesses," he said.
