New teachers already busy at District 15

Palatine Township Elementary District 15 has been keeping its new teachers plenty busy before the academic season begins Wednesday, Aug. 16.

District 15 officials say 53 new teachers will be aboard for 2017-18. Those hires are getting time to become acquainted with their new surroundings.

An annual teacher orientation began July 31 and will run through Aug. 10. Superintendent Scott Thompson gave the 53 instructors a gentle start by welcoming them and providing some history about the school system.

For the work portion of the two-week orientation, the teachers will learn about District 15's curriculum and technology expectations. The newbies also will meet mentors and attend an innovation summit to be informed by their peers about digital best practices in the classroom.

District 15 is one of the largest elementary school systems in Illinois with about 12,655 students and roughly 2,100 employees. It covers all or part of Palatine, Rolling Meadows, Hoffman Estates, Inverness, South Barrington, Arlington Heights and Schaumburg.
