Bellwood man gets 7 years for gun violation in Mount Prospect shooting plea

A 23-year-old parolee who fired a gun in Mount Prospect last April pleaded guilty Thursday to unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon and was sentenced to seven years in prison.
Jose M. Mendoza's seven-year sentence was the maximum. He received credit for 114 days in custody.
According to prosecutors, the Bellwood man was on parole for a 2013 robbery when he fired shots on April 10 from a car in the 100 block of Wimbolton Drive because his ex-girlfriend refused to speak to him.
No one was injured in the shooting, which occurred about 4 p.m.
A witness identified Mendoza, prosecutors said.
