Fundraiser to fight scleroderma Sunday in Geneva

The Scleroderma Foundation Greater Chicago chapter hosts its 4th annual Reason to Rock Fun Walk and '50s Fest Sunday at Northwestern Medicine Field in Geneva.

The event raises money to provide support for those living with scleroderma, which is a chronic, often progressive, autoimmune disease in which the immune system attacks its own body.

Registration at the home of the Kane County Cougars begins at 11:30 a.m. for the 1-mile fun walk at noon. Kids are encouraged to bring a mitt and ball to play catch in the outfield. The 1950s-themed fest follows the walk with food, music, activities for kids and adults, and a classic car show.

Advanced registration is $30 for adults, $15 for kids 9 to 17, and $5 for younger kids. Registration is $5 more Sunday.

"The Reason to Rock event is a lot of fun (and) it's a walk and festival people of all ages will enjoy," says Stephanie Somers Gresh, executive director for the Scleroderma Foundation Greater Chicago chapter. "What makes it even better is it raises much needed funds to find the cause of and cure for scleroderma."

The stadium is at 34W002 Cherry Lane, just off Kirk Road and south of Route 38.
