Man dies after motorcycle crash near Cary

A Cary man died early Wednesday morning after crashing his motorcycle into a utility pole in an unincorporated area near Cary, authorities said.

Lake County sheriff's deputies responded to the motorcycle crash near Fox River Road and Woodland Avenue about 12:10 a.m. The motorcyclist was taken to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington with serious injuries, and he later died, authorities said.

According to a preliminary investigation, it appears the man was traveling east on Fox River Road when he veered into a ditch on the south side of the road and hit the utility pole, ejecting him from the motorcycle.

The crash remains under investigation. The driver's name is being withheld until family members are notified.

Police initially identified the motorcyclist as being from Fox River Grove, but later changed his last known address as being from Cary.
