Elgin shooting under investigation

Elgin police are investigating the shooting of a 42-year-old man who they say drove himself to the hospital for treatment.

Officers responded at 10:54 p.m. Friday to a report of shots fired around Wheelock and Washburn streets. When the officers arrived, they found evidence of a discharged firearm.

Police said they also responded to a call from an area hospital that a man was being treated for a gunshot wound. The victim was treated and released.

The two situations are being investigated by the Gang Crimes Unit.
