Cubs snatch Crosstown Cup with 6-3 victory over White Sox

Two women rescued from Fox River

Two 19-year-old women were rescued Wednesday from the flood-swollen Fox River in North Aurora. Several teen bystanders heard their screams from nearby Lippold Park and called 911 for help. A trained rescue crew was nearby and in the water within 3 minutes. Full story

Feds charge 13 in drug bust

Thirteen people are facing federal drug charges for distributing cocaine, heroin and fentanyl on Chicago's Northwest Side and Qestern suburbs, authorities said. The more than two-year federal investigation, which included undercover surveillance, resulted in seizures of roughly 52 kilograms of cocaine, 45 kilograms of heroin, more than 13 kilograms of fentanyl and a pound of methamphetamines, authorities said. Eugene Alexander, 44, of Bensenville was among those charged. Full story

Former Elgin woman accused of attempted murder

A former Elgin woman faces charges of attempted murder, aggravated arson, home invasion and possession of a stolen vehicle after prosecutors say she stabbed and tried to suffocate another woman, and then set her ex-boyfriend's Roselle townhouse on fire. A DuPage County judge set bail at $2 million Thursday afternoon for Chevaz R. Odio, 28, whose last known address was on the 900 block of Carriage Way in Elgin, but who most recently was living at her brother's home in Streamwood. Full story

Crystal Lake cardboard regatta canceled

The 33rd annual America's Cardboard Cup Regatta scheduled for Saturday in Crystal Lake has been canceled due to flooding and high water. The Crystal Lake Park District has determined that Main Beach is unsafe and poses a hazard. For safety reasons, the park district and the regatta board decided not to hold the event this year. Antioch chemical spill under investigation

Cleanup was underway and the site and water sources were being monitored Thursday as an investigation continued into the type, cause and extent of a reported chemical leak at a vacant industrial building on Anita Avenue in Antioch. There have been no injuries or danger to the public. Full story
