Antioch man denies selling crack near high school

An Antioch man accused of selling crack cocaine near Antioch High School pleaded not guilty Wednesday to charges that could land him up to 30 years in prison.

Jason Stackhouse, 36, of the 100 block of Oakwood Drive, faces charges of delivery of a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school, unlawful delivery of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.

The charges normally carry a maximum 15-year sentence, but because Stackhouse has a previous felony conviction for unlawful delivery of a controlled substance, the potential sentence is doubled.

Stackhouse's trial is scheduled for Sept. 25. He remains held in the Lake County jail on $100,000 bail.

The charges came after a four-week police investigation after which authorities said Stackhouse sold crack cocaine to an undercover detective with the Lake County Sheriff's gang task force several times prior to his arrest June 23.

One sale occurred within 300 feet of the high school, authorities said.

Stackhouse was arrested in the area of North Avenue and Burning Bush Drive near unincorporated Antioch after another sale to an undercover detective, authorities said.

Stackhouse is due back in court on Aug. 2.
