Antioch police investigating suspicious incident involving children

Antioch police are investigating a suspicious incident Monday in which a man reportedly drove slowly alongside two children riding their bicycles and appeared to take a photograph of them with his mobile phone.

However, police said Tuesday, there is no evidence to support rumors circulating on social media that the man attempted to lure the children into his vehicle.

According to police, officers were called at about 11 a.m. Monday to the 500 block of Indian Trail Road in the Tiffany Farms Subdivision on a report of the suspicious incident.

A parent said that an 8- and 11-year-old child were riding their bicycles in the neighborhood when a man drove past and appeared to take their photo, police said.

The man was described as a white male, possibly in his 60s, with a gray or white beard. He was driving a full-size silver SUV that was pulling an open-top trailer that may have been red.

Based on statements from those involved, at no time did the man make any attempt to have contact with the children, nor did he attempt to engage them, police said.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the police department's Investigations Division at (847) 395-8585. Community members should immediately report any and all suspicious activity by calling 911, police said.
