Crews putting finishing touches on DuPage County Fairgrounds

Crews were working Monday to prepare the fairgrounds in Wheaton for the DuPage County Fair that opens its five-day run Wednesday and continues through Sunday at 2015 Manchester Road.

The grounds will open at 8 a.m. Wednesday, with a parade and opening ceremony scheduled for 4:30 p.m.

This year's fair schedule features all sorts of old standbys, from a blue ribbon livestock auction to Sunday's demolition derby, and from an antique tractor parade on Saturday to a watermelon eating contest.

But it also will feature a couple new acts, including country singer David Nail at 8:30 p.m. Saturday on the Main Stage and pop star Rachel Platten - whose "Fight Song" has become an anthem for numerous causes - on the same stage at 8:30 p.m. Friday.

Tickets for the fair are $10 for adults, $5 for seniors and $4 for kids ages 3 to 12. Military personnel with an ID are admitted free.
