Sale of Elk Grove Township headquarters likely delayed

Elk Grove Township is delaying the sale of its headquarters after officials found the property's title had a deed restriction.

The township board is expected to postpone plans to open bids on the headquarters at 2400 S. Arlington Heights Road because of the discovery. Supervisor Mike Sweeney declined to disclose the restriction but said removing it will increase the value of the land, a benefit for the township.

"If we have a clean title, that maximizes the number of offers we get," Sweeney said. "We have a fiduciary duty to maximize the number of bids."

Sweeney estimated the change would delay selling the building by about two months.

The land sale is part of the township's plan consolidate into one building to streamline services and save money.

Township officials have received approval from voters to sell the youth services building at 401 W. Golf Road in Mount Prospect, the headquarters at 2400 S. Arlington Heights Road property in Arlington Heights and the 711 Chelmsford Lane property in Elk Grove Village, which operates a day care.

The township and Elk Grove Village are mulling plans to swap the Chelmsford Lane property for village property at 600 Landmeier Road. The township would then have offices, parking and operations at the Landmeier property.
