Prairie Road in Buffalo Grove reopened after lightning strike

Prairie Road in Buffalo Grove has reopened after firefighters responded to reports of a possible house fire, officials said.

A resident reported that lightning had struck a home on the 1900 block of Prairie Road, believing it could cause a fire, village spokeswoman Melanie Santostefano said. Firefighters and police who responded to the scene have since left the property, she said.

Meanwhile, the village is receiving dozens of calls about street flooding, downed trees and power outages as a strong thunderstorm system moves through the area, Santostefano said. There are about 2,400 customers without power, she said.

The village is asking residents to call (800) 334-7661 to report power outages.
