Golf outing raises $57,000 for A Safe Place

A Safe Place, which provides programs and services for victims of domestic violence in Lake County, raised more than $57,000 this week at its 15th annual "Drive Out Domestic Violence" golf outing at Ravinia Green Country Club in Riverwoods.

Despite rain, 21 foursomes spent a day of golf and good company at the event Monday, which also featured a live auction, raffle tickets, a 50/50 raffle and mulligan purchases. The outing was the organization's most successful in more than seven years.

The fundraiser occurred at a time when domestic violence funding from the state has been eliminated, threatening the foundation of all programs and services, from the emergency shelter and court advocacy to counseling and life skills, according to the organization. Although A Safe Place served more 13,000 Lake County residents last year, another 500 were turned away due to lack of funding.
