Coroner: Man shot to death in Woodstock

A man killed early Friday morning in Woodstock died from a gunshot wound, officials said.

Woodstock police responded to a report of gunshots just after 1 a.m. at a municipal lot near East Calhoun and South Jefferson streets, according to a news release from McHenry County Coroner Dr. Anne Majewski.

The victim, a middle-aged Hispanic man, was taken to Centegra Woodstock Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 1:45 a.m., the release said, and an autopsy performed later Friday revealed the man had died from blood loss due to a gunshot wound. The man's identity has not yet been released until his family is notified.

The man's death is currently under investigation by the McHenry County coroner's office, the McHenry County Investigation Assistance Team and the Woodstock Police Department.
