Woman killed in crash on Route 120 in Volo

A 46-year-old woman from Round Lake Beach died in a two-vehicle crash in Volo Monday afternoon, police said.

The crash happened at around 3:45 p.m. when the woman's SUV and a pickup truck collided at the intersection of Route 120 and Volo Village Road, said Kevin Lyons, the Lakemoor Police Department public information officer.

Responding firefighters arrived to find a pickup truck in the middle of that intersection, and SUV off the road. The driver of the SUV was found pinned into her vehicle, not breathing and with no pulse, fire officials said.

Police believe the pickup truck was heading west on Route 120 and SUV was attempting to head east on Route 120 from Volo Village Road. The truck's driver was taken to a nearby hospital in unknown condition, Lyons said.

The crash remains under investigation. Route 120 was shut down for hours while members of the Lake County Major Crash Assist Team helped investigate.

Wauconda firefighters helped the Lake County Coroner with extrication. McHenry, Barrington and Countryside fire departments also assisted.
