Buffalo Grove police win traffic safety award

The Buffalo Grove Police Department recently won first place in the 2016 Illinois Traffic Safety Challenge.

The competition is an annual event coordinated by the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police to recognize law enforcement agencies for their efforts to identify and address traffic and highway safety issues in their communities.

Police agencies are judged against others of similar size and type throughout the state on efforts to address impaired driving, speed-related issues and seat belt/child safety seats, among other issues. Departments are required to document policies, officer training, enforcement efforts and public education. The goal of the challenge is to save lives and reduce traffic-related injuries.

An awards ceremony will be held Aug. 16 to recognize the winners. The ceremony is hosted by the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police in conjunction with the Midwest Security and Police Expo.

This is the 15th consecutive year the Buffalo Grove Police Department has received recognition in the Traffic Safety Challenge.
