Des Plaines Elementary School District 62 fills open board seat

Des Plaines Elementary District 62 board members appointed a new member Monday to fill a vacant seat.

The board voted 4-2 to appoint Tina Garrett to a term ending in 2019.

Board members Ronald Burton, Sharon Lynch, Beth Morely and James Poskozim voted to appoint Garrett. Stephanie Duckmann and Brian Inzerello opposed the appointment.

Inzerello said his vote was not necessarily against Garrett but rather in support of another applicant.

"I have no qualms with working with her," Inzerello said. "She seems to be more than qualified."

During the election, five board candidates sought four 4-year terms, leaving the vacant 2-year position unfilled.

Other applicants included: Jessica Orstead, an assistant principal in East Aurora School District 131; Gene Fregetto, a former library board member and candidate for 3rd Ward alderman this year; Dan Bachar, a candidate for a 4-year term on the school board in April and Maine Township High School District 207 employee; Bob Sanks, a vice president at BMO Harris Bank; and Elizabeth Lazzara, a family law attorney.
