18 years for Bensenville man in sexual assault of minor

A 36-year-old Bensenville man was sentenced Friday to 18 years in prison for sexually assaulting a minor daughter of a relative.

Armando Morales-Velazquez pleaded guilty in March to one count of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child. His sentence was handed down by DuPage County Judge John Kinsella.

Prosecutors said Morales-Velazquez assaulted his 10-year-old victim between Nov. 19, 2015, and March 1, 2016, at her home while he lived with her family.

The assault was discovered when the victim's younger sister told her mother she saw Morales-Velazquez kiss the victim. The girl's mother called Bensenville police who contacted the DuPage County Children's Center.

Morales-Velazquez has been held in DuPage County jail since April 2016.

He will be required to serve 85 percent of his sentence before being eligible for parole. He also will be required to register as a sex offender for life.
