Juvenile could face arson charge in Lake Villa fire

A juvenile is facing charges alleging he intentionally set fire Tuesday to a building at a Lake Villa mental health facility.

Lake Villa police said firefighters were called at 8:22 p.m. Tuesday to One Hope United, 215 N. Milwaukee Ave., for a fire in a maintenance building on the southwest portion of the property.

One Hope United provides mental health services and a residential care programs for at-risk youth involved with the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, authorities said.

Damages are estimated at $8,000, police said. No one was injured in the fire.

Police said the fire immediately appeared suspicious, and an investigation determined it had been set by a juvenile resident of the facility.

Authorities were withholding information regarding the juvenile's identity because of his age.

The boy was referred to juvenile court authorities on charges of arson and criminal damage to state supported land, police said. Official charges are not approved until reviewed by a juvenile court judge.
