Bartlett bar expanding outside and in

Bracht's Place - Bartlett's oldest operating bar - has received village board permission to let drinkers use a new 1,200-square-foot expansion inside and to build a fenced outdoor beer garden behind the building.

Out of respect for its neighbors, the outdoor seating area will not allow music and will close earlier than the business itself each night - 10 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays and midnight Fridays and Saturdays.

Owner Larry Humbracht had recently acquired an additional unit of the Devon/Prospect Plaza at 363 S. Prospect Ave. to expand from 2,700 to 3,900 square feet. But until he received the special-use permit, patrons with alcoholic beverages were not allowed to enter the new space.
