Mundelein carp festival set for May 20-21

Mundelein Park and Recreation District will host a carp festival for the second consecutive year.

Set for Diamond Lake, participants can fish for all the carp they can catch on Saturday, May 20 and Sunday, May 21. The park district will join forces on the event with the Diamond Lake Preservation Alliance and award prizes for biggest carp, most carp and smallest carp.

"We picked a date earlier than last year, hoping to catch the carp before they spawn. We want to get as many carp out of the lake as possible," said Margaret Resnick, the park and rec district's executive director and member alliance member. "The carp are an invasive species that has a negative effect on the lake's health, so carp fest will not only be a fun activity, but beneficial as well."
