Schaumburg man charged with molesting girl

A Schaumburg man was ordered held on $1 million bail Friday on charges he molested an 11-year-old girl four years ago.

Joseph Jasser, 36, was charged with two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, which is punishable by up to seven years in prison. Probation is also an option.

Sometime between Aug. 1 and Dec. 31, 2012, Jasser volunteered to take the girl to a Schaumburg fast-food restaurant for ice cream, said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Alyssa Grissom. Afterward, Jasser drove to a cul-de-sac where he sexually abused the girl, Grissom said.

Sometime later, the girl told a cousin about the abuse. In August 2016, she told a school counselor.

Jasser was convicted of possession of a controlled substance in 2013 and sentenced to 24 months of probation. He also has misdemeanor convictions for DUI, battery, possession of cannabis and damage to property, Grissom said.

Jasser's pretrial safety evaluation reflected an elevated risk of violence, which Cook County Judge Joseph Cataldo noted in setting bail. He ordered Jasser have no contact with the girl, her family or anyone under age 18.

Jasser next appears in court on Nov. 17.
