Chicago International Film Fest rolls out red carpet 53rd time

The 53rd Chicago International Film Festival opens Thursday, Oct. 12, with the Midwest premiere of Reginald Hudlin's "Marshall," chronicling future U.S. Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall's defense of an African-American chauffeur charged with rape and attempted murder in 1941 Connecticut.

Stars Chadwick Boseman, Josh Gad and Sterling K. Brown are expected to attend.

More than 150 festival entries will be shown Oct. 12 to Oct. 26 at the AMC River East 21 Theaters, 322 E. Illinois St., Chicago. The fest includes its annual programs, such as Black Perspectives, Cinemas of the Americas, Out-Look, After Dark and City & State. The fest also showcases films made in Chicago and Illinois.

This year's festival theme is "Because Life is a Movie."

Festival passes cost $105 to $260. Individual tickets cost $7 to $20. Special events tickets cost $30 to $150. Discounted parking is available. Go to chicagofilmfestival.com or call (312) 683-0121 for schedules and program details.
