Capitol Steps, Three Redneck Tenors highlight Schaumburg Prairie Center 2017-18 season

The Schaumburg Prairie Center for the Arts has announced its 32nd season, which includes a mix of national touring acts, area entertainers and homegrown productions.

The season opens on Saturday, Sept. 16, with local comedian Patti Vasquez leading a benefit concert sponsored by the Prairie Center Arts Foundation.

Other season highlights include:

• David Bromberg and John Sebastian (of The Lovin' Spoonful) in concert on Saturday, Oct. 14.

• The Capitol Steps spoofs global and national politics in a song-and-dance revue on Saturday, Oct. 21.

• World champion dancer Larry Yazzie leads the Native Pride Dancers to showcase Native American traditions from the Northern Plains on Nov. 17.

• Schaumburg Ballet Ensemble's "The Nutcracker" returns for two weekend runs Dec. 1-3 and Dec. 8-10.

• Southern comedy and classical opera combine in Three Redneck Tenors on March 4.

• Chicago actress Angela Ingersoll embodies a tragic Hollywood legend with the concert "Judy Garland: Come Rain or Come Shine" on March 10.

• Celebrate St. Patrick's Day with the Celtic music duo of Brian FitzGerald and Martin McCormack as Switchback on March 17.

• Famed folk band Sons of the Never Wrong with Michael Miles perform on April 14.

New for the season is the option to add on a VIP package to select shows, which includes extra benefits such as priority seating and special "meet and greet" receptions with the artists. The Prairie Center also will carry a new name soon, since village trustees recently voted to re-christen the performing arts complex after Mayor Al Larson to honor his 30 years in office.
